ReviewsTwo day tour of St Petersburg was amazing

We were on a Norwegian Breakaway Baltic cruise  and were scheduled to be in St Petersburg on 27 & 28 September 2018. Due to bad weather we did not arrive until 28 September 2018.

I was worried that our 2 day tour would turn into one day. I emailed Alexei, MaxiBaltTours tour operator, with my concerns, he replied that nothing would change. This was incredible news as St Petersburg was a highlight of our Baltic cruise.

Our disembarkation was a slow process due to Russian immigration, nothing to do with the tour operator.

Our Russian tour guide was Veronika. She was a lovely girl, very fluent in English, also very knowledgeable of Russian history.

Our first stop was the Hermitage Museum, fortunately we were on a tour and avoided the long queues.

We then went onto The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood, check it out on the internet.

For something different we were taken on the St Petersburg subway, longest escalator and deepest subway in the world.

We left the main group at this point and had some traditional Russian pies with Alexei.

The next day we were picked up early and started with a boat tour of the canals. A bit chilly but spectacular.

We then proceeded to Peterhof Palace where we saw the amazing grounds and gardens.

This was followed by a traditional Russian lunch of borscht, dumplings and pancakes. Very yummy.

We then went onto see Catherine's palace, the Amber room was amazing. Sad we couldn't take photos.

The main tour group went back to the ship and we went onto the Faberge museum followed by some souvenir shopping.

All of our experiences in Russia were amazing, I think this was due to MaxBaltTours.

The city is criss-crossed with small rivers and canals which make the city look like Venice or Amsterdam.
