Reviews › St Petersburg group tour from Regal Princess
We just visited St Petersburg on a cruise and had two days to explore as much as we possibly could in our time there.
Rather than taking the ships offered tour, we elected to go for a smaller tour (18 in total) to maximise our experience.
Alexei met us at the ship and our visas were all sorted (don't listen to the ships PR saying they are the only ones who can arrange a visa). He then handed us over to our Russian guide Olga who was great!
The mini bus was clean and comfy, our driver knew his stuff and seemed to cut through any traffic. The beauty of these guys is that they knew how to maximise our time. You could easily spend 10 days in St Petersburg (including a full 10 hour day at the Hermitage alone!) but we only had two days :-(
The other winning factor was the breadth of knowledge and detail that Olga had at all the sites we went to. She really knew her stuff (no notes) and pretty much didn't draw breath for the 2.5 hours in the Hermitage.
Unfortunately we did end up with a couple of idiots on our group (hard to avoid them anywhere in the world I'm afraid) who managed to get lost .. TWICE. But again, Olga managed to save the day (& keep her composure)
Our arranged/included lunch on the first day was OK but the second days lunch was great and we got to sample a local ale (our cost).
Again, big thanks to Alexei and Olga.
We LOVE St Petersburg!
